ദേവസ്വം ഭരണവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട വിഷയങ്ങളെപ്പറ്റി സമഗ്രമായ അന്വേഷണം നടത്തി റിപ്പോർട്ട് സമർപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനായി കെ.പി. ശങ്കരൻ നായർ ഏകാംഗ കമ്മീഷനെ 1983 ജനുവരിയിൽ സർക്കാർ നിയമിക്കുകയുണ്ടായി. തിരുവിതാംകൂർ, കൊച്ചി, മലബാർ പ്രദേശങ്ങളിലുളള ക്ഷേത്രങ്ങളുടെയും, ഹിന്ദുമത-ധർമ്മസ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെയും ഭരണത്തിന് ഉണ്ടാക്കേണ്ട ഏകീകൃത നിയമത്തിൻ്റെ കരട് രൂപം എന്തായിരിക്കണമെന്ന് ശുപാർശ ചെയ്യുന്നതോടൊപ്പം, ദേവസ്വങ്ങളുടെ ഭരണത്തിന് കാലോചിതമായി വരുത്തേണ്ട പരിഷ്ക്കാരങ്ങളെപ്പറ്റിയും, അന്വേഷണം നടത്തി ശുപാർശകൾ സമർപ്പിക്കാനാണ് കമ്മീഷനെ ചുമതലപ്പെടുത്തിയിരുന്നത്.

It is a government college, currently functioning with autonomous status. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious colleges in the state of Kerala, with a long tradition of academic excellence, cultural contributions, and alumni influence.
