The administration of Travancore-Cochin in 1955–1956 faced intense political volatility, with the Praja Socialist Party ministry collapsing in February 1955, leading to Panampilly Govinda Menon’s brief Congress-led tenure focused on education, infrastructure, and administrative integration of Travancore and Cochin legacies. Internal rifts forced his resignation on March 11, 1956, dissolving the 118-member assembly and imposing President’s Rule on March 23 under Article 356. Amid instability, key reforms advanced, including the 1956 Compensation for Tenants Improvements Act for tenant protections, the Irrigation Act for water management, the 1955 Public Health Act for sanitation and disease control, land utilization surveys, and a new National Sample Survey Unit. The era culminated in linguistic reorganization, balancing the Aikya Kerala Movement’s push to merge Malabar with Travancore-Cochin against the Travancore Tamil Nadu Congress’s demands to cede Tamil southern taluks like Kanyakumari to Madras. By late October 1956, these shifts paved the way for Kerala’s birth on November 1, replacing the Rajpramukh with a Governor

1929 -ൽ  പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിച്ച, റ്റി.പി. ചെറിയാൻ രചിച്ച പിതൃപാലകൻ എന്ന പുസ്തകത്തിൻ്റെ ഡിജിറ്റൽ സ്കാൻ ആണ് ഈ പോസ്റ്റിലൂടെ പങ്കു വെക്കുന്നത്.

പ്രശസ്തകവിയായ എം. ഒ. അവരാ അവർകളുടെ വിശ്വപ്രേമ’ത്തിൻ്റെ ഇതിവൃത്തം, ബൈബിളിലെ സുപ്രശസ്തമായ “തിരുവത്താഴ”മാകുന്നു. മഞ്ജരി പോലെ വിവിധ വൃത്തങ്ങളെ ആശ്രയിച്ചു കൊണ്ട് ലോകാചാര്യനായ യേശുക്രിസ്തുവിൻ്റെ ചരിതം പ്രതിപാദിക്കുന്നു. സഹൃദയന്മാരേയും സന്മാർഗ്ഗനിരതന്മാരേയും വിശേഷമായി ക്രിസ്തുമത ഭക്തന്മാരേയും അത്യന്തം രസിപ്പിക്കുന്നതും, ഉത്തമവും ആയ ഒരു ഖണ്ഡകാവ്യമാണ് ഈ പുസ്തകം.
സന്മാർഗതത്ത്വങ്ങൾ, ആശയരമ്യത, അലങ്കാരബോധം എന്നിവ കൊണ്ടു അധികം ഹൃദയാവജ്ജകങ്ങളായ പല ഭാഗങ്ങളും ഈ കാവ്യത്തിൽ ഉണ്ടു്. “അതുനാളേശുവും സ്വശിഷ്യവഗ്ഗവും” എന്നു തുടങ്ങുന്നതുമുതൽ ക്രിസ്തുവിൻ്റെയും ശിഷ്യന്മാരുടേയും സമാഗമത്തേയും, വിശ്വഗുരുവിൻ്റെ ഉപദേശങ്ങളേയും പ്രതിപാദിക്കുന്നതുമായ ഭാഗം അവയിൽ പ്രഥമഗണനീയമാകുന്നു. ക്രിസ്തു ശിഷ്യന്മാക്കു ചെയ്യുന്ന തത്ത്വോപദേശത്തെ ഈ പ്രകൃതത്തിൽ കവി, ഗംഭീരമായും സരസമായും വിവരിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു. കവിയുടെ അന്യാദൃശമായ ഈശ്വരഭക്തി വിശ്വപ്രേമത്തിൽ തെളിഞ്ഞു വിളയാടുന്നുണ്ട്. ക്രിസ്തുവിനെക്കുറിച്ചു പ്രതിപാദിക്കുന്ന സന്ദർഭങ്ങൾ വരുമ്പോഴാണ് കവിയുടെ ഭക്തിതീവ്രത അനിയന്ത്രിതമായവിധം പ്രകടമാകുന്നത്. മതഭക്തന്മാർക്ക് വിശേഷേണ ‘വിശ്വപ്രേമം’ ആനന്ദജനകമായിരിക്കും. പുസ്തകത്തിലെ പല സന്ദഭങ്ങളിലും പ്രേമത്തിൻ്റെ  മാഹാത്മ്യത്തെ ഗാനം ചെയ്യുന്നതുകൊണ്ട് ‘വിശ്വപ്രേമം’ അന്വത്ഥനാമകമായ ഒരു കൃതിയാണെന്ന് പറയാവുന്നതാണ്. “പ്രേമമേ ബലം, കാരുണ്യമേ ഗുണം, ത്യാഗമേ ജയം, താഴ്ചയേ ഭൂഷണം.” എന്നു കവി ആവിഷ്കരിക്കുന്ന തത്വത്തെ പ്രസ്തുത കാവ്യം നിമ്മലമായ ഒരു ദർപ്പണത്തിലെന്ന പോലെ പ്രതിഫലിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. അപഥസഞ്ചാരികളെ ആസ്തികതയിലേക്കു നയിക്കുവാൻ പര്യാപ്തമായ ഭാഷാകൃതികളുടെ ഇടയിൽ ഇതിനും അവഗണിക്കാനാവാത്ത ഒരു സ്ഥാനമുണ്ട് നിസ്സംശയം പറയാം.
