1941 – Administration Report Of The Police Department In The Cochin State For The Year 1939-1940
The 1941 Cochin Police Department Administrative Report, covering the years 1939-1940, details significant administrative reforms and modernization efforts in the Cochin police force. From 1939, the police head’s title changed to Inspector General, with Khan Bahadur Syed Abdul Karim Suhra Wardi appointed as the inaugural Inspector General. Key reforms included the establishment of the Criminal Intelligence Bureau and the Fingerprint Bureau under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The police administration adopted the Cochin Police Manual around 1941, which formalized new administrative procedures and introduced zoning, placing police stations under the charge of Inspectors and district superintendents.
The police force’s size expanded, with 63 officers and 477 policemen recorded during this period. Sub Inspectors were made in-charge of police stations to improve local administration. Additionally, specialized bureaus and departments like the Traffic Department and Motor Vehicles Department were placed under the supervision of the Inspector General and district officials. The Police Gazette was also started in 1939 to improve communication within the force. These reforms collectively aimed to professionalize and structure the police force more efficiently, preparing it to meet the law and order challenges of the time.

St. Thomas’ College, Thrissur is one of Kerala’s oldest and most prestigious institutions. Founded in 1889 by Rt. Rev. Adolphus E. Medlycott, it started as a school and became a Second Grade College in 1918, later upgrading to First Grade in 1925. It holds the distinction of being Kerala’s first Catholic college, run by the Syro-Malabar Catholic Archdiocese of Thrissur, and is affiliated with the University of Calicut.
The Magazine in published twice in a year. In these issues, the contents are Articles in different topics and literary articles written by eminent writers and students in English and Malayalam languages.
