1942 – The Carmelite Congregation in Malabar

Through this post we are releasing the scan of The Carmelite Congregation in Malabar published in the year 1942.

The Carmelite congregation, with a humble beginning in the last Century now spread all over Malabar, was founded by Father Thomas Palakkal and  Thomas Porukara  the model priests of virtue and learning.  in 1831, they put up a house on a small hill at Mannanam near Kottayam .  After their death, Fr. Cyriac Elias (Chavara Achan) became the head of the Institution. Under the patronage of Fr. Cyriac Elias  new houses sprang up in different parts of Malabar. This book contains the history of the Carmelite Congregation, the detail of Priors Generals,  Geographical detail of Houses of the Priors, Bishop Houses, Different Institutions, the names and duration of the Authorities who served these institutions from time to time.
