Census of India Report 1961- Vol. VII presents a descriptive account of seventeen selected traditional crafts of Kerala chosen for their artistic excellence, featuring detailed monographs on six major industries—bell-metal, Kathakali costumes and accessories, coir, ivory carving, kora grass mats, and wood carving—alongside short notes on the remaining eleven. Utilizing a preliminary list from the Director of Industries and Commerce, Kerala, the study bypassed traditional questionnaires in favor of direct field investigations conducted by the author and research staff at major craft hubs.
