This book introduces children to the original geographic locations of various items of clothing. Woollens, cotton, silk, pins and needles, linen, canvas and other jute goods, and hats are covered in individual chapters ranging over relevant areas of Britain and parts of the British empire including Japan, China, India and Australia. Includes many photographs and illustrations.
Through this post we are releasing the scan of the book, ‘Captain Blood‘ by Rafael Sabatini. This is an abridgment by E F Dodd of the original book and belongs to the series, ‘Macmillan’s Stories to Remember‘.
Captain Blood
The original book is a classic novel, involving rebellion, ships, piracy and adventure. It has been retold for children by E F Dodd using a simpler vocabulary. Elizabeth Frances Dodd was one of the editors who made such abridgments during the 1960s and 1970s for Macmillan. These retellings were released in two series, Junior (for primary and middle school) and Senior (for high school). The books were used as readers for non-detailed study in schools in India.
Through this post we are releasing the scan of the book The Snow Queen by Hans Andersen, published in 1920. This book seems to have been used as a reader for high school classes in Kerala.
The Snow Queen
The Snow Queen is a Christmas fairy tale, written by the famous Danish story teller Hans Andersen (also spelled Anderson). The story centres on two children, Karl and Gerda, and the theme is the fight between good and evil. The title refers to the evil character, the Snow Queen. In the original story, Karl’s name is Kai. There are illustrations on most pages of the book.
