1986 – Three Century Kerala Carmelite Mission – Victor Sanmiguel

Through this post we are releasing the scan of Three Century Kerala Carmelite Mission published in the year 1986. The Spanish author of the book Victor Sanmiguel who became the Bishop of Kuwait in 1966. He served for nearly 38 years in the Kerala Churches and was the Director of Social Action and Welfare for the Dioceses of Kerala for 10 years and lecturer in sociology for 25 years at the Saint Joseph’s Pontifical Seminary of Alway.

The book is the history of the Carmelite Mission in Kerala and India for the three Centuries. It is divided into four periods. Fulfilling the pontifical mission (1956 to1700), Vicar Apostolate (  1704 to 1838) Modern history including the separation of the Syrians upto 1975 with the handing over of the Alway Seminary to the Kerala Bishops Conference and the establishment of a variety of institutions different Carmelite Apostolates such as Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, Manjummel Carmelite, Malabar Province, Verapoly Unit,  Mother of Carmel, Theresian Carmelites, Apostolic Carmel,  The Congregation of Carmelite Sisters of St. Theresa, Holy Angels Carmelite, Trivandrum and the Cloistered Carmelite. The book depicts the outline of Christianity in India especially in Kerala.
