Through this post we are releasing the scan of the book titled National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences – Silver Jubilee Commemorative Volume a Souvenir of NIMHANS, Bangalore published in connection with the Silver Jubilee of the institute in 1980.
National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences is an autonomous registered body under the Society Act. A mental hostpital in Bangalore started in the later part of 19th Century, which was known as Lunatic Asylum then. in the year 1925 the name changed to Mental Hospital. The Government of India sanctioned the establishment of all India Institute of Mental Health, the first of its kind after independence on 1st of April, 1954 in association with the Mental Hospital. Now it is a Post Graduate training and research institution in the fields of mental health and Neuro Sciences. In addition, it developes community mental health, and neuro sciences, programs of service, demonstration, training and research in both urban and rural areas. The souvenir depicts the history and development of the Institution from inception. There are lot of photographs of different departments, people and the services they have rendered towards the upbringing of the Institution.
