1925 – Bharathanuvarnanam – T Ganapati Sastri

Through this post we are releasing the scan of the Sanskrit book, Bharatanuvarnanam, by T Ganapathi Sastri.

Bharathanuvarnanam

This book is a description of the geography, history, epic figures, people and customs of India, written in Sanskrit by the author. The author’s preface in the first edition of 1904 (missing in this 1925 copy) mentions that it was intended as a reader for European students of Sanskrit, as suggested by Prof Sylvain Levi of France.

The author was Principal of the Govt Sanskrit College, Thiruvananthapuram during the Sree Mulam Tirunal era, and was famous for discovering the manuscripts of 13 lost plays by the classical Sanskrit playwright, Bhasa in a remote Kerala village. He also established the Manuscripts Library of the University of Travancore.

The book was made available for digitization by Achuthsankar S Nair.
