Abstract

The Legacy of Islam (Kerala) by Dr. K. K. N. Kurup explores the socio-cultural, economic, and historical contributions of the Mappila Muslim community to Kerala over more than twelve centuries. This collection of research essays examines the community’s role in shaping regional history through cultural assimilation, agrarian dynamics, art, and Sufi traditions. It offers a critical analysis of their anti-colonial resistance—ranging from the 16th-century naval defense by the Kunjali Marakkars against the Portuguese to the 1921 Malabar Rebellion.
