കേരളത്തിൽ പണ്ട് കാലത്ത് കൂടുതൽ മുസ്ലീം സമുദായാംഗങ്ങളും അറബി അക്ഷരമാല മാത്രമേ പഠിച്ചിരുന്നുള്ളൂ. ഇവരുടെ സാഹിത്യ രചനകൾ മലയാളത്തിൻ്റെ രൂപവും വ്യാകരണവും ഉള്ളവ ആയിരുന്നെങ്കിലും മലയാള ലിപിക്കു പകരം അറബിമലയാളം അക്ഷരമാലയിൽ ആയിരുന്നു എഴുതിയത്. മതപ്രചരണത്തിനായി വന്ന മിഷണറിമാർക്ക് മുസ്ലീം സമുദായാംങ്ങളുടെ ഇടയിൽ ബൈബിൾ ലഭ്യമാക്കാൻ അറബി മലയാളത്തിൽ ബൈബിൾ ഇറക്കേണമായിരുന്നു. ആ വിധത്തിൽ 1905-ൽ മദ്രാസ് ബൈബിൾ ഓക്സിലറി സൊസൈറ്റി ഇറക്കിയ പുസ്തകമാണ് ലൂക്കായുടെ ഇഞ്ചീൽ (ലൂക്കോസിൻ്റെ സുവിശേഷം). ഏതാണ്ട് 270 താളുകൾ ആണ് ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിൽ ഉള്ളത്. നിലവിൽ നമുക്ക് ലഭ്യമായിരിക്കുന്ന ഏറ്റവും പഴയ അറബി മലയാളകൃതിയുടെ സ്കാൻ ഇതാണ്.

In earlier times, most of the Muslim community in Kerala were educated primarily in the Arabic script. Although their literary works followed the structure, vocabulary, and grammar of Malayalam, they were written in the Arabi-Malayalam script rather than in the standard Malayalam script. Christian missionaries who sought to spread their message among the Muslim population recognized the need to make biblical texts accessible in a script familiar to this community. As a result, portions of the Bible were translated and published in Arabi-Malayalam. One such work is "The Gospel of Luke" (Injil Lukua), published in 1905 by the Madras Bible Auxiliary Society. The volume consists of approximately 270 pages and represents an important milestone in the history of Arabi-Malayalam printing. The scanned copy discussed here is currently the oldest Arabi-Malayalam printed work made available to us.
