Centum Adagia Malabarica

Centum Adagia Malabarica, published in 1791, is a collection of one hundred adages used in the Malabar region along with their Latin translations. The work was collected and translated by Paulinus of St. Bartholomaeo and published by Antonio Fulgoni. The work was printed using the same Malayalam print plates that had earlier been employed for Alphabetum Grandonico Malabaricum and later for Samkshepavedartham.
The collection includes adages that were widely prevalent among both the Gentile communities and the Christians of St. Thomas in Malabar, so familiar in everyday speech that even children commonly used them. Alongside these sayings, the work also contains fragments of liturgical, mythological, and historical material, together with selections refined from Brahmanic texts. These were compiled with the intention of explanation and interpretation, while consistently providing the original text either in Sanskrit or in the Malayalam vernacular. The volume itself remains concise, extending to no more than thirty leaves.
