മംഗലാപുരം ബാസൽ മിഷൻ പ്രസ്സിൽ നിന്ന് 1843-ൽ ഇറങ്ങിയ ഒരു മലയാളം കാറ്റക്കിസം പുസ്തകമാണ് ഇത്. അടിസ്ഥാനപരമായ മതതത്വങ്ങൾ, വിശ്വാസപ്രമാണങ്ങൾ, പ്രാർത്ഥനകൾ എന്നിവ ഒരു ചോദ്യോത്തര രൂപത്തിൽ പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനെയാണ് കാറ്റക്കിസം അഥവാ മതബോധനം എന്ന് വിളിക്കുന്നത്. മിക്ക ഇന്ത്യൻ ഭാഷകളിലേയും ആദ്യകാല അച്ചടി കൃതികൾ കാറ്റക്കിസം ആയിരുന്നു. കാരണം പ്രിൻ്റിങ്ങിനും ലിപി മാനകീകരണത്തിനും ഒക്കെ മുൻകൈ എടുത്തത് മിഷണറിമാർ ആയിരുന്നു. ലിത്തോഗ്രഫി ഉപയോഗിച്ച് അച്ചടിച്ച ഈ പുസ്തകത്തിൻ്റെ പൂർണപേര് എന്താണെന്നോ എഴുതിയതാരാണെന്നോ അറിയില്ല. രണ്ടാം അദ്ധ്യായം ക്രിസ്തീയവിശ്വാസം എന്നാണ് പുസ്തകം തുടങ്ങുന്നതു. ഈ അദ്ധ്യായം ഒന്നാം ഖണ്ഡം – പിതാവായ ദൈവം, രണ്ടാം ഖണ്ഡം – പുത്രനായ ദൈവം, മൂന്നാം ഖണ്ഡം – പരിശുദ്ധാത്മാവായ ദൈവം എന്നിങ്ങനെ മൂന്നായി തിരിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ആദ്യത്തെ ചോദ്യം ൨൫൯ (259) എന്ന മലയാള അക്കത്തിൽ ആണ് ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത്. ചോദ്യം ൩൮൭ (387) എന്നതിൽ പുസ്തകം അവസാനിക്കുന്നു.

This is a Malayalam catechism book printed in 1843 at the Basel Mission press in Mangalore. A catechism is a method of teaching basic religious doctrines, creeds, and prayers through a question-and-answer format. In most Indian languages, some of the earliest printed works were catechisms, since missionaries took the lead in introducing printing and standardizing scripts. Printed using lithography, the full title of this book and the name of its author remain unknown. The book begins with the second chapter, titled “Christian Faith (Kristhiyavishwasam) ,” which is divided into three sections: the first on God the Father (Pithavaya daivam), the second on God the Son (Puthranaya daivam), and the third on God the Holy Spirit (Parishudathmavaya daivam). The first question in the surviving text begins with the Malayalam numeral ൨൫൯ (259), and the book concludes with question ൩൮൭ (387).
