Abstract
This book documents the 16th-century naval resistance led by the Zamorins of Calicut and their admirals, the Kunjali Marakkars, against Portuguese colonial expansion along the Malabar Coast. Drawing on original Portuguese archival documents and Sheikh Zainuddin’s contemporary Arabic text Tuhfat-ul-Mujahideen, the study highlights the maritime strategies that protected trade and sovereignty across the Indian Ocean. Published to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the martyrdom of Kunjali Marakkar IV, it captures the legacy of India’s earliest anti-colonial naval heroes.
