The Synod of Diamper was a church council convened by representatives of the Western Roman Catholic Church based in Goa, with the aim of bringing the Nasranis of Kerala into the Catholic Church. The synod was held from June 20 to 26, 1599, at Udayamperoor (Diamper). The bishop who presided over the synod was Aleixo de Menezes. The Syriac Christians of Kerala, who were known as the Saint Thomas Christians or Malankara Nasranis, regarded this as an attack on the Kerala Christian traditions they had followed for nearly 1,500 years. Those who led the synod were all “Parankis” (Portuguese foreigners). To understand their perspective, the best source is to read the proceedings of the synod itself. After the synod concluded in 1599, the official proceedings were published in Portuguese in 1606 under the title 'Synodo Diocesano Da Igreia E Baspado De An-gamale Dos Antigos Christaos De Sam Thome'.

കേരളത്തിലെ നസ്രാണികളെ കത്തോലിക്കാ സഭയിലേക്കു കൊണ്ടുവരാനായി ഗോവ ആസ്ഥാനമാക്കിയിരുന്ന പാശ്ചാത്യ റോമൻ കത്തോലിക്കാ സഭാപ്രതിനിധികൾ 1599 ജൂൺ മാസം 20 മുതൽ 26 വരെ വിളിച്ചുചേർത്ത സഭാസമ്മേളനമാണ് ഉദയംപേരൂർ സൂനഹദോസ്. അലെക്സൊ ഡെ മെനസിസ് ആയിരിന്നു സൂനഹദോസ് കൈകാര്യം ചെയ്ത ബിഷപ്പ്. മാർ തോമാ നസ്രാണികൾ അഥവാ മലങ്കര നസ്രാണികൾ എന്നറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന കേരളത്തിലെ സുറിയാനി ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികൾ 1500-ഓളം വർഷങ്ങളായി തങ്ങൾ പിന്തുടർന്നിരുന്ന കേരള ക്രൈസ്തവ പാരമ്പര്യത്തിന്മേലുള്ള ഒരു ആക്രമണമായി ഇതിനെ കാണുക്കാക്കി. ഇതിന് നേതൃത്വം കൊടുത്തവർ എല്ലാം പറങ്കികൾ ആയിരുന്നു അവരുടെ ഭാഗത്ത് നിന്നുള്ള കാര്യങ്ങൾ മനസ്സിലാക്കാൻ ഏറ്റവും നല്ലത് സുനഹദോസിന്റെ നടപടിക്രമങ്ങൾ വായിക്കുക ആണ്. 1599-ൽ സുനഹദോസ് കഴിഞ്ഞ് 1606-ൽ പോർട്ടുഗീസ് ഭാഷയിൽ തന്നെ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ട ഉദയംപേരൂർ സുനഹദോസിന്റെ നടപടി ക്രമങ്ങളുടെ പുസ്തകമാണ് "Synodo Diocesano Da Igreia E Baspado De An-gamale Dos Antigos Christaos De Sam Thome".
